Chicago Prototype Fire Station

Alexander The Great Project

An ambitious project, a monumental, mountain stone carving in northern Greece of a portrait of Alexander the Great inspired by Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse carving in South Dakota. The carving is the idea of sculptor Andy Papadopoulis, a former student. I was retained as an architect to provide schematic design and conceptual renderings for a visitor’s center, museum and artist residences. For a somewhat cynical and mildy humorous take on this endeavor check out the Chicago Reader’s interview of Andy and myself. Andy later installed some smaller sculptures in the city of Asprovolta and I was hired by American developers and the local Greek government to study/render schematic designs for beachfront development.

Piazza Drawings

These computer generated drawings reflect my fascination with Italian baroque architecture, piazzas, plazas, amphitheaters and the monumental scale of the work of architects such as Boullee. The buildings of Borromini, the Spanish Steps, the Piazza Navonna, Greek amphitheaters and the Piazza del Campo of Sienna are the biggest influences on my concept of space.
